Tankman in Utrecht, Netherlands

Do you remember?
Beijing July 5, 1989 - The student protests never took place, says The Party. But it did, as photo's and films show. The peaceful protest were ended in the night by the army: tanks against peaceful protesting Chinese students. No one knows the number of the dead!
It never took place says The Party ...
An unknown man stopped the tanks after they crushed the protests.
Tankman is since that day the symbol of the powerless individual that opposes the evil forces of power. Tankman was never seen again after his brave and powerless action!

His wax-statue was created by Fernando Sánchez Castillo.
In 2013 it was exposed in a shoppingmall in Utrecht, Netherlands.

August 28, 2014 I photographed the shopping passers-by in the shopping mall where Tankman was exposed. It is now in the Utrecht Museum.

This serie was created for a photo-exhibition in Utrecht.
